Play off schedule still undecided

It will take until the final day matches are over next Sunday before we know for sure who will face who in the play offs. As it stands now it's almost certain City will be away in the first leg on either Saturday May 8th or Sunday May 9th.City look set for a top four finish which will be the best since the Bluebirds finished 3rd at this level in 1971. No play offs in those days, City missed out on automatic promotion by three points. Leicester and Sheff Utd were the two teams to go into the First Division. For Cardiff to finish outside the top four they would need to lose at Derby next Sunday and Leicester win at home to Middlesbrough, at the same time seeing a seven goal swing in Leciester's favour (city lose 0 - 3, Leciester win 4 - 0 etc). In fact because of the amount of goals Cardiff have scored the swing would need to 8 goals for Leicester to go above us. Not impossible but unlikely.City could still match the 1971 side and finish 3rd. Victory at Derby coupled with a Forest defeat at Scunthorpe would see Cardiff into third place. That would still mean an away first leg.The final play off spot took a dramatic twist yesterday. Swansea, long time favourites to finish in the top six slipped to 7th place after defeat at Sheff Utd. Blackpool kept their nerve and won at Peterborough to go 6th.With one game left Blackpool just need to beat Bristol City at Bloomfield Rd to edge out the Swans. The Jacks are at home to Scunthorpe in a match they just have to win. Anything less and they will fail whatever Blackpoool achieve. The only thing we can say for certain is that we will not face Forest in the play off semi's. It'll be Leciester, Blackpool or Swansea. The final day fixtures are as follows.
