Pete to pay the penalty

Peter Whittingham is back on penalty duty for Cardiff and manager Dave Jones has full confidence in his ability to hit the target. The Bluebirds boss previously stated the midfielder had been relieved of spot-kick duties after he missed his second of the season in the 2-1 win at Barnsley prior to the recent international break. But Whittingham, who scored 25 times last season including eight of nine penalties, found the net from 12 yards against Coventry on Tuesday night to follow up the brace he bagged against Bristol City on Saturday which opened his account for the season. Jones confirmed: "I said to him on Saturday that they (missed penalties) are like buses, they are never coming and then they all seem to come at once "Once he is full of confidence there is never any danger, I think he was just snatching a little bit before as he was so desperate to get on the scoresheet and it just didn`t happen for him. It`s unusual for him, certainly with penalties because I can`t remember him missing them, even in training. "I had no hesitation once the lads gave him the ball (against Coventry), he was the designated taker on Saturday and after the goals I had no problems with him taking this one."
