Of the top six before the midweek matches kicked off only two managed to win. Cardiff's victory took them top over Brighton who only drew at home to Ipswich.
Leicester beat Huddersfield to move into 2nd place.
Blackburn drew at Forest on Wednesday while Wolves were beaten on Tuesday at home to Crystal Palace.
Half of the dozen games played ended in draws.
