McPhail ready for action

Steve McPhail hopes to be involved in a reserve team game this Friday. The City midfielder is back in full training and hoping to make his mark on the first team in a few weeks as he plays catch up after missing the pre season games. McPhail is in remission after being diagnosed with stage one MALT lymphoma in late 2009, but also suffers from Sjogren’s Syndrome. He's had this all his life and has recently been poorly after taking medication to relieve the symptoms. A misread posting on the internet spread into rumours that McPhail's cancer had returned and caused widespread concern. "I don't know where it has come from to be honest. There have been a lot of rumours in the last week that are totally way off the mark," McPhail said when he visited the opening of a new Ty Hafan shop in Penarth on Tuesday. "I've had some issues with a syndrome (Sjogren's) I've had all my life. I took some tablets and I've had some side effects I need to get looked into. "They've done that now and I'm looking to start training tomorrow with the boys. "It has been frustarting. My family don't live in this country so obviously if they read something like that it's not great. "I just want to clear everything up. I'm not hiding anything from anyone - I'm as fit as I've ever been and I just want to get playing. "The doctors wanted to do some tests and they have come back really good. I'm ready to play and join in with the boys again. "Concerns about the cancer are well out of my mind. I'm nearly two years out of that now and I'm looking forward to a lot more years that way," he added. Great news from Steve.
