Matthews ready for Rangers

Young Cardiff defender Adam Matthews has declared himself ready to be thrust into the team to face QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday if he is called upon. The 18-year-old Wales Under-21 International has featured nine times for the first team this season and could figure in the top-of-the-table clash as regulars Lee Naylor and Darcy Blake have knocks while the Bluebirds have also been hit by an illness bug. Matthews told Wales Online: "I'd love to play, of course, and I'm ready if needed. It's a tight ground at Loftus Road and the crowd are on top of you, but there will be big support from Bluebirds fans and they'll get behind their team. "I've played quite a few matches this season and I'm happy with my progress. I have a long way to go to reach my potential and I can't expect to play every week with quality defenders like Kevin McNaughton and Lee Naylor in front of me. "There is a long way to go this season and it's unlikely both Kevin and Lee will be fit for every game. I have to take my chance when it comes."
