Matthews plays down strike

The right-back, 17, took a free-kick merely five yards in Watford's half and watched as the ball floated over Hornets goalkeeper Scott Loach, who was in no man's land, and into the back of the net. "Obviously I didn't mean it," said Matthews on Cardiff City Player. "I meant to put a ball into the box, over-hit it and luckily it went over the keeper and in. So I'm happy. "I didn't know what to do, I didn't see it go in to be honest because the keeper was blocking my view but I saw all the people running to me and I just stood there and they all jumped on me. It wasn't too bad, obviously I didn't mean it but I'll take it." After a disappointing spell of form, Cardiff have hit back to quickly register two resounding victories and Matthews is hoping the international break will not slow down their momentum. "Last week we couldn't wait for the international break, we needed a break to be fair," he added. "After these last two games we just want to keep playing because we're on top form, we just hope it doesn't put us back."
