Malky Mackay v Nigel Pearson

Malky focussed on what's to come, not what's gone already.

Pre match comments from the two managers.

Malky Mackay

"Inside the football club we make sure we just focus on the games that we have got. Myself, the training ground staff and the players are just focusing on the next game that is in front of us."We have got a lot of experienced people at the football club, in terms of staff and players, who have been through this a lot, who have been through the Championship, been through being promoted or in the play-offs and being in and around a pressure situation at either end of the season. That makes a difference and helps."It's going to be a very tough league between now and the end of the season and there are going to be teams dropping points all the way through. It's going to be about who is as consistent as they can be."

Nigel Pearson

“We are getting to a critical part of the season and, for the first time, it has looked as though we are being affected by the situation.

“But the disappointment felt by players has created a real feeling of wanting to go out and do something about it.

“We always try to have a positive look at it. But I don’t believe in shying away from what the issues are and we under-performed against (Sheffield) Wednesday.

“But I know what our players are capable of. So do they – and every one of them is keen to get back in form and back to winning ways.

“Our performance against Cardiff has to be spot-on but they, like us, face similar problems in that they are at home and are expected to go out and dominate the game.

“That isn’t always possible and we have players who are capable of causing problems.

“We have to manage the ball better to get into advanced areas.

“That is where we were slightly lacking against Wednesday.

“But as the away side at Cardiff we must be as efficient as possible and still utilise our offensive strengths to try and win the game.”
