Malky hopes have Gunnarsson back tonight

The Icelandic midfielder was injured early in the defeat at Leicester on the weekend but he could be fit for tonight.

“It was a kind of spasm in Gunnar’s back,” said Mackay. “We think it’s a pelvic problem, more to do with a nerve than muscle. The scans show it is not serious.

“Our medical team have been working on Aron intensively over the last few days and he is making good progress.

“He was able to work outside yesterday and this morning which is good and we will give him every chance of being available this evening.”

City are looking to arrest a slide of three games without a win. With the top two playing each other this evening a Cardiff victory would gain ground on one or both of the top two sides.
