Jones: Win was deserved

Boss Dave Jones felt his Cardiff side deserved their last-gasp victory over Doncaster on Saturday and admitted a point would not have been enough for the club`s promotion hopes. James Coppinger struck a 78th-minute equaliser for Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium to cancel out Chris Burke`s early strike, seemingly setting the hosts on their way to a point they duly merited based on their dominant possession and more than double the attempts on goal. But Jones introduced Jason Koumas from the bench with three minutes remaining and he repaid his manager`s faith with two crucial strikes in the closing stages to secure a dramatic 3-1 win. Jones said: "I felt we were in control of the game and we just switched off, allowing them to maybe get a little bit of momentum, the crowd got behind them and they had a good chance to make it 2-0 but they didn`t take it. "Then we had to step up again because, would a draw have been any good to us? Not really. I felt we came away with a deserved victory at the end. "We nullified a lot of their good play that they`re capable of, certainly at home. We limited them to maybe knocking long balls that they don`t normally do. I thought it was a solid performance from us and the work-rate was typified probably by the third goal."
