Jones hails defiant Cardiff

Cardiff boss Dave Jones felt his team fully merited a replay against Stoke after they weathered a second-half onslaught in the FA Cup third round tie at the Britannia Stadium. Michael Chopra put the npower Championship outfit in front in the eighth minute, the Potters defence allowing him time to head against the post and then slot home the rebound. Tuncay Sanli made it 1-1 in the 45th minute after latching on to Ricardo Fuller's header, but although the hosts dominated the second period, the Bluebirds managed to keep their Barclays Premier League opponents at bay and the teams will meet again at the Cardiff City Stadium on January 18. Asked if he believed it was a deserved draw, Jones said: "I think so. We fell asleep in the first half (for Stoke's goal) with the long ball down the middle and got caught, but we stood and had to be counted. "There were a lot of balls into our box from all over the place and I thought we stood up to it, and when we could get out and play, we tried to do that. "I've got nothing but praise for the lads, certainly when you look at our bench, which was full of kids. They have come here and earned it. I'm disappointed we didn't win it having got our noses in front, but this is a hard place to come."
