Jones backs Bothroyd for England

Dave Jones has urged England coach Fabio Capello to take a look at Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd. The 28-year-old former Coventry and Wolves marksman capped an impressive display against Bristol City on Saturday with Cardiff`s first goal to inspire a 3-2 fightback after the visitors had taken an early two-goal lead. Bothroyd has never been recognised at international level and having seen Capello call upon 33-year-old Kevin Davies last Tuesday night against Montenegro - England`s oldest debutant for 60 years - Jones insists the Italian could not go far wrong by running the rule over his man. "If England are looking for a different striker rather than what they`ve got at the moment, come and have a look at Jay Bothroyd," said Jones. "Based on Saturday`s performance, he`s quality. And you can have high quality players down at this level, David Jones was on show (for Bristol City), we`ve got a few here in Craig Bellamy and that. "It`s not all about the Premier League sometimes, there are good players down here in the Championship. He (Bothroyd) is certainly one of them because, based on that performance, that`s some top quality strike play."
