Is Dave Jones a real Fulham contender?
Somebody somewhere must have brought his name up in relation to the job but to see him installed as favourite the minute Jol turned down the job came from nowhere. The bookies might have him lined up but the rest of the media don't seem overly excited. Sky Sports News gave it some coverage but not for long before the story faded to just being Jol refusing the job and hardly a mention of who might take over.Later in the day yesterday Sven Goran Eriksson emerged as a more likely favourite. Cardiff City commented that no approach had been made for Jones to either the club or to the man himself.The blissfully ignorant Talksport didn't know much about Cardiff and whether Jones was likely to stay so they phoned someone up, confirmed a Malaysian or Thai consortium had taken over and that Jones was more likely to stay at Cardiff as money was obviously available to him.Little do they kow that we can't even pay for players we signed last year let alone buy any new ones.So onto today's press. The Independent say the Fulham players are believed to want Jones while at the same time The Guardian claim Jones is not even being considered.I guess if Fulham came knocking the lure of the Premier League and financial security both at a football level and personal level would be too much for Jones to refuse. Jones must wonder how an earth he's going to keep his players motivated this season with one apparant financial crisis after another heaping embarrassment if nothing else on Cardiff City.What we don't know as fans on the outside is just what exactly is going on behind the scenes. TG and Vincent Tan knew what they were taking on. Maybe these crisis cropping up are to be expected as the new board try to tackle years worth of excessive spending and financial wrecklesness.We are not the only club in difficulty. Sheffield Weds today have been issued a High Court writ by the ever more agressive tax man. Portsmouth are still in a mess. Palace are fighting back after administration.Seeing Michael Chopra's comments today that he's off if the club don't sort itself out is not going to give fans any cheer.The next week or so leading upto the new season could be a defining moment in the clubs history. Has Dave Jones and his squad got one more season in them to make a push for the Premier League or are we about to see a spectacular break up of the side as we know it and a reformation leading us to start all over again?
