International woe for Bluebirds

Goalkeeper David Marshall and forward Ross McCormack started Scotland's crucial World Cup qualifier in Norway but could do nothing to prevent a disappointing 4-0 whitewash. Marshall played the entire match in Oslo but McCormack was taken off in the 37th minute as Scotland manager George Burley looked to reorganise his side following defender Gary Caldwell's first-half red card. Joe Ledley's third consecutive match as Wales captain ended in a 2-1 friendly defeat in Montenegro, with the midfielder playing the full 90 minutes in a side that also included five ex-Cardiff players. Gabor Gyepes was also part of a Hungary starting XI that suffered a 1-0 friendly defeat to Romania. Meanwhile, Cardiff have been drawn at home to Bristol Rovers in the second round of the Carling Cup, with the tie due to take place during the week commencing August 24.
