Hudson tipped to take captaincy

It is understood the centre-back, signed from Charlton earlier this month, will lead out the Bluebirds for Saturday's final showpiece friendly against Valencia and for the first time in competitive action versus Scunthorpe on the opening day. Ledley took the armband from Stephen McPhail midway through last season after the Irish midfielder lost his place in the team, but the Wales skipper's uncertain future looks to have paved the way for Hudson to step in. The 27-year-old has shared the captaincy with Fairwater-born Ledley for much of pre-season but looks to have won the battle on a permanent basis. Meanwhile, unsettled striker Ross McCormack is set to to line up against Valencia at the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend with Portsmouth appearing to have cooled their interest. Pompey boss Paul Hart made an enquiry about the Scotland international at the start of this week but a bid has not been forthcoming and the chances of a move look to have come to an end.
