FT Watford 0 - 0 Cardiff City move closer to promotion

When is one point worth three? When it's against the team in 3rd place of course.

A workmanlike and professional display from Cardiff City 'The Bluebirds' in their blue shirts and white shorts has put one foot in the Premier League.

The draw keeps Watford 8 points behind Cardiff in 3rd place and providing Watford win all their remaining games City need just 8 points from six remaining matches for promotion.

Before kick off the target was 11 points but today's draw reduced that by three because of the team we were playing.

A fiesty first half was followed by a second half where chances were at a premium for City but man of the match Ben Turner and his defensive partner Leon Barnett kept Watford at bay but the moment of the match came when Deeney headed towards goal only for David Marshall to make a world class save.

On Twitter this evening Rio Ferdinand said

"What a save by Marshall...Banks'ish!"

The draw will also suit Hill City who are favourites for second place. Watford may have to take their chances in the play offs if they can't overcome The Tigers.

To be honest unless there's a capitulation of catastrophic proportions Cardiff will be promoted in the next couple of weeks. The soonest possible will be next Saturday.

Next up Cardiff face Barnsley on Tuesday at CCS in the first of three home games.
