Brighton retook the lead on the hour and looked to have done enough to win until Filip Kiss headed Cardiff level on the stroke of 90 mins. The game went into extra time and it took 2 mins for Brighton to go 3 - 2 ahead.
The home side thought they had won the game as the 120 min mark approached but incredibly Cardiff scored twice to win the game.
Tommy O'Sullivan levelled at to make it 3 - 3 in the 120th minute and from the restart City regained possession and Rhys Healey scored his second and Cardiff's winner with the last kick of the game.
Cardiff will now entertain Chelsea at home in mid November.
