Chopra and JET tame the Tigers
Cardiff City left Humberside with a superb three points after a two nil win over Hull City. Teams going places win games like this. City picked up a well deserved three points with their first ever win at the KC Stadium. A tight first half was noticeable for five moments. First Anthony Gerrard was injured in the opening minutes, his contribution for the rest of the half was functional before being subbed at half time. Jay Bothroyd was ruled offside when converting from close range after Chopra's shot was blocked and City had two goal bound efforts cleared off the line. The other moment of note was a stunning diving save by Tom Heaton to keep it at 0 - 0. The second half saw Cardiff defending the goal in front of the visiting fans but to be honest apart from a late Barmby chance that was scooped over the bar and a free kick in front of goal that was blocked there wasn't an awful lot of defending to do. The centre halves of Keinan and Hudson superbly dealt with any threat in the air but it was in attack where the match was won. Halfway through the second half Kevin McNaughton crossed to an unmarked Michael Chopra and he made no mistake with his header. Cardiff didn't create that many clear cut chances but the ones that did they took. As Cardiff looked to see out four minutes of injury time Jay Emmanuel Thomas got the ball in the Hull box. He juggled like a circus performer before volleying in off the keeper to seal the victory. The celebrations among the City support were superb and contrasted to the despair from the home fans who had started leaving the stadium long before JET had iced the victory. With Q.P.R. and Swansea both winning it was a crucial 3 points made even sweeter with Forest drawing. City have a week off now before a Saturday tea time fixture against Ipswich Town at the CCS.
