Sammy Ameobi could make Cardiff return

Sammy Ameobi could return to Cardiff's starting line-up for the Sky Bet Championship visit of in-form Preston.

Ameobi lost his place after picking up a red card at Charlton recently, with his replacement Lex Immers scoring in the 4-1 victory over Brighton last weekend.

But Bluebirds boss Russell Slade was disappointed with his side's performance in the 3-1 midweek defeat at Middlesbrough and might make a few changes, with Lee Peltier and Aron Gunnarsson also pushing for recalls after a busy schedule.

Winger Craig Noone (chest) and defender Sean Morrison (knee) have stepped up their recovery programmes this week but are still unlikely to make the matchday squad.

Preston loanee Eoin Doyle will be unavailable to face his parent club under the terms of his deal at Deepdale.

The striker has not started any of North End's past five matches, though, and they are aiming to close the month out unbeaten.

Jermaine Beckford, Liam Grimshaw (both knee), Chris Humphrey (shin) and Stevie May all remain out once again for Simon Grayson's side.

May had an operation on his knee issue on Wednesday morning and is likely to remain out until a few months into the next campaign.
