Cardiff's Fabio back from ban to face Middlesbrough

Cardiff have former Manchester United full-back Fabio available again after suspension for the visit of high-flying Middlesbrough.

However, Bluebirds boss Russell Slade is still without defensive duo Bruno Manga and Ben Turner because of injury, while striker Kenwyne Jones missed Saturday's goalless draw at Preston with a shin problem sustained on international duty.

Midfielder Joe Ralls, meanwhile, was replaced at half-time at Deepdale after suffering what Slade has described as a "slight" hamstring problem so Craig Noone, who impressed his manager as a second-half substitute, could earn a starting berth against Boro.

Cardiff could not claim the points against struggling Preston, but Slade is hoping for better on Tuesday, telling Cardiff City Player: "We looked a real threat in the second period at times and there were opportunities there to go and win it. Sadly we haven't, but we'll have to go back, try and improve again, and look at our strategies to have more opportunities to get a goal."

Boro boss Aitor Karanka will welcome defender Fernando Amorebieta back to the fold as he attempts to return to winning ways.

Amorebieta was ineligible for Saturday's 0-0 home draw with parent club Fulham under the terms of his loan agreement.

Karanka, who drafted Ben Gibson, Carlos de Pena and David Nugent into the starting line-up at the weekend, has no fresh injury problems with only long-term absentees Damia Abella (knee), Alex Baptiste (leg fracture) and Rhys Williams (Achilles) unavailable to him.

However, midfielder Grant Leadbitter picked up his fourth booking of the campaign against Fulham and is just one more away from a ban.
