Cardiff v Burnley. Match preview
City are set to face a tough test when Burnley come to town on Tuesday evening. The Clarets have just won back to back League games for the first time in 17 months and against two promotion chasing sides as well. After seeing off Norwich at Turf Moor Burnley went to Vicarage Rd on Saturday and beat Watford 3 - 1. No mean feat especially when you think back to Cardiff's effort there at Christmas. Burnley are hoping to have Charlie Austin available after he missed the win at Watford with a virus. Chris Iweumo stepped in and scored so either player will be a threat. Burnley also have players like Clarke Carlise and Chris Eagles in their line up. Cardiff should have Peter Whittingham available and Jason Koumas will be hoping to play a longer role in tomorrow's match. With City playing again on Saturday will Craig Bellamy be rested? Kevin McNaughton is expected to be OK despite a tight hamstring. Dave Jones is focussing on Cardiff City knowing that City must look to win their games and not rely on others slipping up. Victory over Burnley will take Cardiff to just three points behind QPR and it will put the pressure on Nottingham Forest who go to Scunthorpe on Wednesday. It would also open up an 11 point gap on Burnley who are chasing down a play off place. "At this moment, we're a lot stronger than we've ever been because of the players that we have here," Jones said. "That's taken a long time to get to, so hopefully we'll reap the rewards of that at the end of the season." But Jones warned they must focus on themselves if they are to have a chance of winning promotion to the Premier League. "You can't keep praying that the others are going to lose, you've got to keep doing it right for yourself because there's still a long, long way to go," he added. "A lot of games and a lot of points are up for grabs and we'll all be playing each other over the coming weeks and that's where it will decide whether they get further away from you up or down." Burnley boss Eddie Howe brings his side to Cardiff for the second match in a run of four consecutive away games. To win at Watford was the ideal start. “It’s a very good start to what is a tough run of games. "Four away games in a row is quite rare at any level, so to start that with a win I thought was crucial. "Now we go to Cardiff in good form and in good spirits,” he said. “I’ve just been told the stat of when the last back-to-back wins were in the league and it just surprised me. With the quality of the players here it’s an amazing stat really. “We’re delighted to get it out of the way because people tend to talk about it and make a big thing of it, but it’s gone now.” Tickets are available up until kick off.
