Defensive duo to return for Bluebirds

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay hopes to have defenders Ben Turner and Kevin McNaughton available for the clash with Bristol City.

Turner missed the Bluebirds' 0-0 draw at Huddersfield on Saturday after Mackay decided not to risk the centre-back and give him more time to recover from his ankle injury.

Scot McNaughton had to be taken off at half-time with a bad cut to his face so youth product Ben Nugent played the final 45 minutes but the right-back should be available again although he may have to wear a protective mask.

McNaughton may have to make do with a place on the bench if Turner gets the nod to return against the Robins.

More than 25,000 fans are expected at the Cardiff City Stadium for their first home game since the goalless draw with Ipswich on January 12.

Bristol City midfielder Neil Kilkenny could make a surprise return to action after returning to training.

The Australia international damaged his ankle in the victory over Ipswich on January 26, but he was back in full training with his team-mates on Thursday and is set to be available for the Robins in south Wales.

Head coach Sean O`Driscoll will also be able to select winger Albert Adomah for the first time after the Ghanian returned from international duty at the African Nations Cup.

Striker Sam Baldock, who scored on his debut in the 4-2 victory over Cardiff back in August, will undergo a late check on his calf injury but veteran defender Louis Carey will not be risked.

Club captain Cole Skuse could return but his fitness will be monitored before the short trip to face the runaway leaders.
