Valencia inflicted Cardiff City's first defeat at their new home as winger Joaquin inspired the Spanish giants to a 2-0 pre-season friendly victory.Giant Serbian striker Nikola Zigic gave the 2004 Uefa Cup winners the lead before Spain's Joaquin sealed the win. But Cardiff squandered an opportunity for a comeback after trialist Vincent Pericard won a penalty after being fouled in the box by Hedwiges Maduro. Ross McCormack's missed the spot-kick as Cardiff slumped to defeat. Cardiff City manager Dave Jones: "There were a lot of positives from today despite defeat. In the first-half we created enough chances to go in front and we gave them a run for the money. "It was probably only in the last 20 minutes of game when we made a lot of changes that your shape goes and they showed their class. "They're probably one of the top three teams in Spain and we gave them plenty to think about as much as they did with us. "The only sad thing is that we should have been better in front of goal and not as sloppy, we delayed passes too long and that's why they're top players because they don't delay passes."
