Jay Bothroyd created Cardiff history on Wednesday night as he became the first City player to represent England at senior international level.

The Bluebirds striker, also the first Football League player to play for the Three Lions since 2007, was a 72nd-minute substitute for Newcastle`s Andy Carroll at a rain-soaked Wembley, coming on with Fabio Capello`s side already 2-0 down.

Bothroyd did his chances of further recognition no harm with some confident touches and even had a half chance in front of goal, before winning the corner from which Peter Crouch reduced the deficit on the night to 2-1.

England`s next competitive fixture is the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales in Cardiff in March, but Bothroyd`s attention now returns to domestic matters and Saturday`s home fixture against Nottingham Forest.
