Borley praise for Bellamy transfer
Lifelong City fan and club director Steve Borley is as excited as anyone about the signing of Craig Bellamy. Speaking to the Echo Steve had praise for Bellamy, Man City and the Malaysian investors who are making bold strides to stabilise the club and strengthen all at the same time."Craig has shown there can be loyalty in football. It's a rarity for a player to sign for his home city club simply because he wants to and not for any financial consideration."It was impossible, or looked that way, for City to sign a player of that calibre right now and Craig deserves huge credit for making it happen.//'); //]]>"Manchester City, too, have been fantastic in this. They certainly played their part."And the Malaysians have put down a marker which shows everybody they are in this for the long haul. They put their investment and status behind the club in the bid to sign Craig."This is the biggest signing for City since John Charles during the 1960s. I was too young to take a big interest at the time, but people said John Charles was an impossible signing."Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were at the end of their careers when they came to Cardiff City. Craig is a player who was one of the best players in the Premier League and Europe last season."Borley has had a stint as Chairman in the past and has been on the board for over a decade. As a fan like the rest of us he's desperate for success but he knows there must be a stable platform. Now with the new investors he thinks we have a chance."The Malaysians have been committed from the start, but certain people would not believe the chairman, TG, when he told them," said Borley. "They were being written off in some quarters before we had even kicked a ball."Now they have clearly shown their commitment to Cardiff City. Look at the quality of players who have joined the squad. Everybody should start to believe in the Malaysians."'TG' and Eugene Tan are joined in the boardroom by Borley, Alan Whiteley, Michael Isaac and Paul Guy. "All directors have the same focus," says Borley. "We have been together in this guise for three months and there is a lot of work to get through off the pitch."Over the last few years we have made genuine progress and a lot of that is down to stability. Our manager, Dave Jones, is the longest-serving manager in the Championship."Look at other clubs who made good, solid progress. Those who succeed generally have stability."Cardiff City have had 30 years of a rollercoaster ride. There have been good times and I'll never forget them, but there have also been long periods of drought."Now we need to push on and the Malaysian investors are playing a full part in making that possible."
