Cardiff had made a record busting bid for the Kenyan but Celtic took the higher offer from Southampton.

Not bad business, Celtic paid around £900,000 for him two years ago and sold him today for a fee thought to be approx £12m.

Times journalist Gary Jacob tweeted earlier:

Southampton agreed £12m for Wanyama on Friday, a higher fee but lower wage than offered by Cardiff. Celtic look like they won then..

Malky Mackay admitted his bid would have been a record signing for Cardiff and surpassed the previous record Celtic had received for selling a player.

But he's a Southampton player now so we move on.
