Bluebirds make winning start

Jay Bothroyd opened the scoring at the brand new 27,000 all-seater Cardiff City Stadium with a well-taken header after 19 minutes before Michael Chopra celebrated his permanent arrival in the Welsh capital from close range just before half-time. Manager Dave Jones rang the changes at the interval and it was left for youngsters Josh Magennis and Adam Matthews to make it 4-0 in the second half. After the historic encounter, Jones had nothing but praise for the non-league side who were the first victims of Cardiff's memorable FA Cup run to the final in 2008. "It's a great workout for us. After 45 minutes a lot of my lads were breathing heavy and that's because of the way Chasetown played, they made us work for it and that's why we invited them here," Jones told Cardiff's official website. "It was all about fitness levels and I think both teams got something from it, that's what it's all about."
