Bluebirds look strong for first game

Jay Bothroyd had to come off with a knee injury after just 18 minutes of last Saturday's final pre-season friendly against Valencia, while Joe Ledley also took a knock towards the end of the encounter, but both should feature. Whether Ledley retains the captain's armband, though, remains to be seen with his long-term future at the club the centre of much discussion. Ross McCormack, wanted by Hull, is likely to feature in the season opener, although Bothroyd and Michael Chopra are tipped to start. Summer signings Mark Hudson and Anthony Gerrard will compete with Gabor Gyepes for a starting berth in the centre of defence, while fellow new-boy David Marshall is expected to get the nod between the sticks.
