Bluebirds inspired by cup challenge

After seeing his rampant side stun hapless Bristol in Tuesday night's Championship clash at Ashton Gate, Jones revealed he expected a big performance after training on Monday.[LNB]"It was only meant to be a light session but, after the cup draw paired us with Chelsea, there was a real buzz about the place," said Jones.[LNB]"The training was really high tempo with great movement and we have carried it on tonight.[LNB]"Our running off the ball and passing was first class. Virtually everything we hit went in but we could even have had a couple more goals.[LNB]"I know I have players capable of scoring in every game. But we also defended strongly throughout and all departments of the team deserve credit.[LNB]"I think I may have had a couple of similar wins when I was at Stockport. But it's more the way we played than the size of the victory that pleases me."[LNB]Home boss Gary Johnson had to run the gauntlet of angry fans at the end, some of whom stayed on to yell their derision outside the dressing room.[LNB]"It's the sort of night when it is best not to say much," he said. "Whatever reason I try to offer for that performance will be picked apart.[LNB]"We have a lot of soul searching to do over the next few days before our next game at Middlesbrough.[LNB]"It wasn't that we forgot how to defend, we just couldn't defend on the night. Full credit to Cardiff. I had my say at half-time but now we have to collect our thoughts and come up with the right response."[LNB]Peter Whittingham netted his 18th goal of the season in the 19th minute after Bristol goalkeeper Dean Gerken and defender Liam Fontaine got in a muddle.[LNB]Four minutes later Gavin Rae's mis-hit shot fell perfectly for Ross McCormack to net from close range and, before the cheers had died away, Michael Chopra rifled home the third with his right foot from just inside the box.[LNB]Fontaine sliced a Chopra cross into his own net after 43 minutes and, within seconds of the restart, Chopra grabbed his second after good work by Jay Bothroyd.[LNB]McCormack's low drive from 20 yards beat Gerken for a sixth time in the 57th minute and it seemed Cardiff might hit double figures.[LNB]Bristol's night was summed up when Nicky Maynard's late shot was tipped onto a post by Cardiff keeper David Marshall.[LNB][LNB]
