Craig Bellamy has said that the players have to get on with their jobs and not worry about events off the field at Cardiff City.
The departure of Iain Moody, the unsure future of Malky Mackay and the negative press since the last game against Newcastle two weeks ago can't have helped morale but Bellamy warns the players it cannot be used as an excuse ahead of today's clash with Chelsea.
"If you look for excuses, if you are a weak player, you could probably use that but that is not the mentality of this club and it is certainly not the mentality of the players we have here.
"The manager just won't let the players get away with anything. If you don't perform, you are coming off at half-time."
Asked about the events of the past two weeks, he said: “I am just a player and this is above me.
"This is an owner, this is the manager. I’m employed to play and I have a lot to concentrate from just from my perspective.
Bellamy played twice for Wales last week but may find himself on the bench today.
"Firstly I’ve got to get in the team and try and keep my place. I need to try to get my performance levels to the levels I want them to be.
"That’s all I’m concentrating on. This is a selfish game, there’s no two ways about that. You have to be selfish. I’m just going to look at it from my point of view and concentrate on the Chelsea game which is the next game and the biggest."
Bellamy is aware of the attention on the club now it's in the Premier League.
“You can understand the fans' concerns. It’s the way we are changing as a football club as well, the stakes have become a lot, lot higher.
"Being in the Premier League as we have seen this year is a completely different animal. It’s the greatest league going. I’ve seen it all at different clubs.
"I’ve been at Newcastle that was immense, but it was also a circus. I’ve seen it at Manchester City with the Abu Dhabi owners. I’ve seen it. For me it is just part and parcel of football now.
“I do understand the concern. We don’t want anything to change because we have got momentum.
"The club is definitely going in the right direction and everyone just wants to keep going."
