Barnsley v Cardiff. Match preview

14 April 2012 12:55
Cardiff could edge closer to a play off place today with a win at Barnsley.

Sitting in 6th place means at the moment it's still in Cardiff's own hands to secure a play off place. And with six of the chasing teams all away from home today Cardiff stand a good chance of tightening their grip if they win.

Jut under 700 fans have made another long trip North to Oakwell, just seven days after the excursion to Middlesbrough. Hopefully the return journey today will be as happy as last week.

Early team preview from Sporting Life

Barnsley pair Rob Edwards and Scott Golbourne are hoping to prove their fitness in time for the home game with Cardiff.

Centre-half Edwards sustained a dead-leg in Monday's draw at Blackpool, while full-back Golbourne was struggling with an unspecified knock that kept him out.

But manager Keith Hill could be boosted by the return of winger Matt Done, following a hamstring strain, and defender Bobby Hassell, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Midfielders David Perkins and Jim O'Brien should be included in the squad despite suffering from "fatigue" after the two Easter weekend games having only recently returned from injury.

Skipper Jacob Butterfield (knee) and goalkeeper Luke Steele (abdomen) remain sidelined as the Tykes chase three more points to guarantee their safety following a poor run of just one win in 11 matches.

Cardiff will, meanwhile, continue their pursuit of a Championship play-off place without midfielder Craig Conway.

Conway was substituted after 38 minutes of the Bluebirds' 1-1 draw with Watford on Easter Monday following a challenge from Jonathan Hogg, amidst fears he had broken his ankle.

Scans have since shown there is no break, but the 26-year-old has torn ankle ligaments, ruling him out of action for up to three months and therefore the remainder of the season.

Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay has two other injury doubts ahead of the trip to Oakwell.

Striker Joe Mason is rated touch and go for the clash with a groin strain while fellow forward Rudy Gestede is struggling with a hip problem.
