Clemente sacked by Cameroon

Veteran Spanish coach Javier Clemente has had his contract as national coach of African giants Cameroon terminated by the Cameroon federation, state radio CRTV reported on Tuesday.

The 61-year-old former Spanish and Serbian national coach signed a two year contract in August 2010 but had looked certain to be sacked after he failed to guide the 'Indomitable Lions' to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, a competition they have won four times.

"It is official. Javier is leaving his post as coach of the Indomitable Lions," reported CRTV.

"He was informed that his services were no longer required by the Cameroon authorities on Monday.

"The new coaching team should be known on Tuesday."

Clemente, who won back to back league titles as coach of Athletic Bilbao (1982/83 and 83/84), had a six year spell in charge of Spain from 1992 guiding them to the 1994 and 1998 World Cup finals and Euro '96.
