Cambridge defender James Dunne back in contention to face Wycombe

Defender James Dunne is back in contention for Cambridge's Sky Bet League Two clash with Wycombe, but may struggle to regain his place.

The Portsmouth loanee was not allowed to play against his full-time employers on Saturday as part of his agreement and his replacement, Shane O'Neill, impressed alongside Leon Legge.

However, Legge was forced off with a knock with seven minutes remaining and will be assessed, meaning Dunne may be called upon after all.

Striker Jimmy Spencer was substituted at half-time at Fratton Park as he seemingly struggled to cope with the attention of Portsmouth's defenders and it remains to be seen whether he will start against the Chairboys.

Marcus Bean has joined a growing injury list at Wycombe after pulling his hamstring on Saturday.

The former Brentford midfielder was forced out of the 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers and joins Paris Cowan-Hall (ankle), Aaron Pierre (dead leg) and Alex Lynch (thigh) on the treatment table.

"We are a small squad, losing Marcus has left us with just three substitutes but Garry Thompson coming back (from a three-match suspension) gives us four. Aaron isn't far away from a return but Paris and 'Lynchy' are long-termers," Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth told the Bucks Free Press.

Play-off hopefuls Wycombe will spend the next three weeks on the road. After visiting Cambridge they travel to Newport, Accrington and Carlisle, while also entertaining Stevenage in the middle of March.
