Conference play-off winners Cambridge will be glad to start out with a home match against Plymouth in League Two, having won 16 times at Abbey Stadium when finishing second in the table last term.

Richard Money has prepared for a step up in class by bringing in some experienced new recruits, as well as extending the stay of one-time Manchester United trainee Luke Chadwick after his loan spell in the spring.

Wrexham midfielder Johnny Hunt, Chris Dunn from Yeovil, Leyton Orient's Robbie Simpson and loanees Kwesi Appiah and Harry Lennon from Crystal Palace and Charlton respectively are other new arrivals.

"It doesn't seem long since we were at Wembley and there was very little time for celebrating before we had to plan for what was ahead," said Money. "But I think because we finished later than normal, the break was smaller and we've got back into playing football pretty quickly and we hope we're ready."

Plymouth will be without newcomer Anthony O'Connor when they make the long trip.

The 21-year-old Blackburn defender arrived on loan recently but his red card on the final day of last season during a loan spell with their Devon rivals Torquay means he will be suspended.

Boss John Sheridan does have a fully-fit squad at his disposal after Deane Smalley and Dominic Blizzard were passed fit. But both are unlikely to be considered to start due to their recent lack of match action.

Argyle, who have Wales international Darcy Blake on trial for the next few weeks, will also be able to call on Luke McCormick (knee) and Jason Banton (groin) despite the pair missing the 2-1 win at Weston-super-Mare last Saturday.
