Double delight for Deacon

Roarie Deacon's first goals for Crawley were enough to earn his side their first victory of the season after beating Cambridge 3-0.

The 23-year-old, a summer signing from Stevenage, opened the scoring for the visitors six minutes before half time, with a big deflection taking his effort from outside the area away from goalkeeper Chris Dunn.

Deacon had come closest before that, hitting a rocket of a shot from distance that struck the top of Dunn's crossbar on its way over, while George Taft had the hosts' best chance, diverting Liam Hughes' shot from the edge of the box but being denied by Freddie Woodman.

However it was Deacon who added the second, outpacing the Cambridge defence on the left flank and firing home via the far post.

Liam Donnelly was sent off for Crawley nine minutes from the end, receiving a second yellow card for not retreating at a freekick, but the visitors extended their lead three minutes from time, Gwion Edwards tapping in after Bobson Bawling's shot was palmed away by Dunn.

The defeat was the first Cambridge have suffered in Sky Bet League Two this season.
