Cambridge United vs York: Match Preview

03 March 2015 11:42

Cambridge United head in to Tuesday nights home game as favourites over 22nd placed York with forward Ryan Donaldson set to return to the starting line up.

The U's took a 2-0 victory over the weekend at Morecambe and will be looking to keep their momentum going forward in the last third of the season.

Cambridge started the year with three wins but have struggled since and part of that could be down to the distraction of taking on the might of Manchester United in the FA Cup.

"I think Man United was just such a big high with the atmosphere and the build up to those games, and then we've had to come down to earth. We've taken longer than we've wanted to to get back to our bread and butter which is the league," said Ryan Donaldson to the Cambridge Evening News.

The last time Cambridge faced York, Tom Elliott put the U's ahead before Kwesi Appiah tucked away a second goal. It was looking to be a straightforward victory before Jake Hyde pulled a goal back before the half time whistle. Wes Fletcher would deal a cruel blow for United in the 82nd minute when he scored to take the game to a 2-2 draw.

Exeter who currently lay two places ahead of Cambridge were held to a 0-0 draw by York in their last match, so while Cambridge do head in to the game with an advantage anything could be possible, especially as York look to move away from the drop zone.

Cambridge could also be buoyed by the return of experienced midfielder Luke Chadwick who is likely to be named on the bench after missing the last four games with an ankle injury.

Tom Elliott, Rory Gaffney, Jordan Chiedozie and Matteo Lanzoni all remain sidelined for Cambridge United.
