Ballardini exits Cagliari

Cagliari head coach Davide Ballardini has left the club, despite masterminding an amazing escape from relegation last season.

The 44-year-old took over from Nedo Sonetti in December last year and helped Cagliari escape the drop to Serie B.

However, talks over a new contract have broken down and Ballardini has moved on.

A statement on the club's official website: "The paths of Cagliari and Ballardini have divided.

"The tactician's expectations in terms of duration and finance weren't in harmony with the club.

"We offer Ballardini and his staff our congratulations for the work that he completed and our best wishes for the rest of his career."
