Shakers suffer Bishop blow

Bury's star striker Andy Bishop will miss the start of the new season after being forced to undergo surgery to correct a double hernia. The 26-year-old underwent a scan after sitting out Saturday's goalless friendly against Oldham Athletic, with the results not what the Shakers had been hoping for. Bishop had been making good progress in his recovery from a knee operation before this latest setback, having helped Bury reach the League Two play-offs last season. He moved to Gigg Lane in the summer of 2006 from York City and has scored 50 goals in 128 league outings for Bury.
