New Bury manager Alan Knill has made Stoke City striker Adam Rooney his first signing.
The 20-year-old joins the Shakers on a month's loan and leaves the Britannia Stadium with boss Tony Pulis' blessing.
"Adam needs to be playing more games," he told the Potters' official website.
"He learnt a lot at Chesterfield but was on the bench towards the end of his stay.
"Getting him back out on loan and playing regularly is what he needs now to keep improving."
Knill knows Rooney from his time at Chesterfield where he was assistant manager.
The forward scored seven goals in 24 appearances for the Spireites.
