Newcastle legend Nolberto Solano is looking to take the step into management after submitting an application for the vacant Bury job.

Solano was well known as one of the best technical players in the Premier League during spells at West Ham and Aston Villa however spent the majority of his Premier League career with the black and whites.

Bury currently lie near the bottom of the fourth tier and sacked previous boss Kevin Blackwell on Monday in a bid to halt their terrible run of form and turn things around however Solano will be just one of the names under consideration with ex Blackburn manager Steve Kean also in the race.

Solano apparently turned down a number of approaches to coach sides overseas in order to make a mark for himself as a coach in the UK, much like Gus Poyet did at Brighton.
