New Shakers deal for Bishop
28 Jan 2009 - 11:44:51
Bury striker Andy Bishop has ended speculation linking him with a move away from Gigg Lane after putting pen to paper on a new contract.
Earlier in the month, manager Alan Knill conceded defeat in his battle to keep the soon to be out-of-contract 11-goal striker at the promotion-chasing club.
But after Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Bradford City which kept the Shakers third in the table, Knill revealed the positive news.
He told the club's official website: "Andy Bishop has signed the contract and I'm delighted.
"I'm personally delighted because it saves me looking for another striker, but he's just a top player and he would be very difficult to replace.
"It has been a bit of a saga but we've got the right conclusion in that Andy stays for another three-and-a-half years.
"He's been a big part of this football club and we are delighted that he will be a big part of the future.
"It's been a good day. Bish has signed the contract and we take three points. To me that's a pretty good day."
