Bury boss Alan Knill believes Andy Bishop will have a key role to play in the Shakers' battle to avoid relegation to the Blue Square Premier League.

The 25-year-old, signed from York City in the summer of 2006, has found the net 37 times in only 89 appearances for the club and has weighed in with 11 important League goals this term.

Knill insists: "Andy's a really good player and a really good goalscorer.

"I know the board had offers for him in the January transfer window and they turned them down and decided that the best thing for the football club was to keep Andy Bishop.

"He's here now until the end of the season, that's for sure and, obviously, he can do the hardest thing in football which is to score goals.

"I think he's a talisman and the fans see that every time Andy plays he puts in a shift.

"So if it's your most talented player, which Andy probably is, it rubs off on everybody else and I think that his performances spark everybody else and, so far, his performances have been outstanding."
