Shakers sweat on skipper Jones

Bury are likely to be without their captain Craig Jones for Scunthorpe's visit to the JD Stadium.

The Shakers, still searching for their first win under new boss David Flitcroft and in Sky Bet League Two's bottom two at Christmas, played the last 20 minutes of the 2-1 loss to the Pilgrims with 10 men because Jones had to come off with a groin injury.

"Craig Jones has a groin problem," Flitcroft revealed. "We could have left him on but then if you do a 10-day injury becomes a six-week injury."

On-loan full-back Shaun Beeley lasted just 34 minutes before being brought off complaining off tight hamstrings and he will be a major doubt with the quick turnaround, as is midfielder Tom Soares who did not feature in Devon due to a similar problem.

Scunthorpe captain Michael Collins and Matt Sparrow both have an outside chance of returning to the squad

Collins has missed the last two games due to a calf injury and Sparrow has been nursing a hamstring problem, but caretaker-boss Russ Wilcox is hoping both can return in time for the Christmas fixture schedule.

Defender Andy Dawson is not expected back until early in the new year after being sidelined since November with a hip injury.

Scunthorpe have collected 13 points out of a possible 15 in the five games since Wilcox was placed in temporary charge following the sacking of Brian Laws.
