Shakers stun Wigan with crushing FA Cup win

Wigan went out of this season's FA Cup with a whimper as the 2013 winners were beaten 4-0 at local rivals Bury.

The teams are joint-fifth in League One but looked leagues apart as Bury romped into the second round.

Tom Pope claimed an 18th-minute opener before Danny Mayor doubled the hosts' lead after 34 minutes.

Nathan Cameron then struck in first-half stoppage-time before substitute Leon Clarke sealed an emphatic victory in the 64th minute.

The Shakers broke the deadlock as Chris Hussey crossed for Pope, whose header squirmed through the grasp of goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell and in off the post.

Wigan almost hit straight back as Haris Vuckic was denied by keeper Daniel Bachmann but Peter Clarke and Tom Soares went close for Bury.

And although Danny Rose then headed narrowly over for the Shakers, Mayor fired home first time after Jacob Mellis led a Bury break.

Craig Davies tested Bachmann but Danny Pugh crossed for Pope to head back across goal, with Cameron heading in the third on the goal-line.

And Clarke rounded off a miserable afternoon for Latics as he turned in Joe Riley's deflected cross.
