Dale put Shakers to sword

Rochdale claimed their first league win of the season with a thrilling 4-2 victory at neighbours Bury.

Ashley Grimes opened the scoring after five minutes when he headed in Andrew Tutte's inswinging cross, and five minutes later that lead was doubled when Marcus Holness headed in from a similar cross from Joe Widdowson.

The hosts were stunned further in the 18th minute when Nicky Adams haunted his old club as he crashed home from 15 yards.

However, Bury rallied before the break and pulled a goal back from Mike Jones as he smashed home after taking a pass from Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro.

Yet David Ball made it 4-1 two minutes after the restart as he crashed home from the edge of the box.

Just beyond the hour mark Bury reduced the arrears again as Jones crossed for Andy Bishop, who side-footed home from close range before Adams was sent off late on after picking up a second yellow card.
