McNulty off but Bury hold on to win

Ten-man Bury held on to secure a 2-1 home victory against Accrington.

The visitors had the better of the first half and led through Kal Naismith's 19th-minute strike. But Stanley were made to pay for not taking their chances as Danny Rose equalised 10 minutes before half-time and Danny Mayor gave the Shakers a 62nd-minute lead.

Bury captain Jim McNulty was sent off after 71 minutes but Gary Flitcroft's side stood firm to secure their first back-to-back wins of the season.

Stanley made a fine start and went in front as Naismith cut in from the right and curled in a shot off the far post.

Will Hatfield then had a header cleared off the line for the visitors before Bury goalkeeper Rob Lainton denied James Gray and Naismith's follow-up was also cleared off the line.

Accrington would rue that missed opportunity as moments later Ryan Lowe and Kelvin Etuhu combined to set up Rose, who side-footed home from 10 yards.

Stanley almost regained the lead before the break as Naismith curled a 30-yard free-kick against the post, while Tom Aldred sidefooted wide.

But Mayor put Bury in front with a superb strike, curling a 25-yard effort into the top corner of the net.

McNulty was shown a second yellow card for pulling back Gray but Bury survived, although Stanley substitute Shay McCartan went close to grabbing an equaliser.
