Shakers back at the summit

Bury returned to the top of Sky Bet League Two after claiming a 2-0 home win against Tranmere.

Kelvin Etuhu broke the deadlock with a 55th-minute strike before substitute Daniel Nardiello headed home with three minutes left to send Rovers third from bottom.

A tight opening spell saw Tranmere's Abdulai Bell-Baggie head wide from a Max Power cross, while George Donnelly tested recalled Bury keeper Shwan Jalal.

But the hosts gradually got on top, with Tom Soares firing just over while Owain Fon Williams made a fine save low to his left to keep out a Nicky Adams volley.

Bell-Baggie had a penalty shout turned down following a Tranmere break and Bury's Andrew Tutte saw a 20-yard curler saved.

David Flitcroft's side remained on top after the break, with Williams having to turn a Danny Rose header wide.

But the Shakers took the lead moments later when Rovers cleared an Adams corner as far as Etuhu, who swept the ball in from the edge of the box.

Nardiello then replaced Rose and twice went close, while Jalal made a smart save to keep out Tranmere substitute Jason Koumas' shot.

But Nardiello eased Bury's nerves by glancing in Chris Hussey's corner to leave Tranmere fans again calling for manager Rob Edwards' dismissal.
