Shakers back on winning trail

Bury claimed their first league victory in more than two months, 2-0 over Tranmere, to boost their survival chances.

Second-half goals from Efe Sodje and Giles Coke were enough to halt the Shakers' 13-match winless run, while condemning Ronnie Moore to only his second defeat since being reinstalled as manager.

The visitors made a nervous start and almost fell behind when David Worrall hit the post, while at the opposite end Lucas Akins fired just wide from long-range in a cagey first half.

Nathan Clarke called Owain Fon Williams into action with a dipping volley after the break, but Bury were not to be denied for long.

Minutes later, Steven Schumacher's free-kick was met by the head of Sodje, whose effort looped over Fon-Williams and into the net.

Moments later the Shakers doubled their lead when Coke, sent through on the goalkeeper by Andy Bishop, kept his cool to slot the ball home.
