Bury 2-0 Exeter: Report

06 November 2010 23:43
Shakers advance past Exeter Bury upset League One Exeter as they made FA Cup progress thanks to a well-deserved 2-0 victory. The hosts scored a goal in each half, one from each of their centre-backs. They took the lead in the 29th minute when Mike Jones floated over a free-kick and Efe Sodje was there to plant home a bullet header from eight yards. Earlier both sides had been thwarted by the woodwork. In the third minute Andy Haworth's powerful 25-yard drive was brilliantly palmed onto the post by Exeter keeper Artur Krysiak, while after 17 minutes Richard Logan nodded into Danny Nardiello's path, but he could only side-foot a close-range effort onto the post. Exeter wide-man Liam Sercombe hooked a cross-shot onto the crossbar shortly after the restart, but it was Bury who went two clear in the 54th minute. Jones' corner-kick was not cleared, allowing defender Tom Lees time to smash home a shot from 12 yards.
