Joe Dodoo hits stunning hat-trick on Leicester debut

Youngster Joe Dodoo hit a stunning debut hat-trick as Leicester maintained their flying start to the season with a 4-1 win at Bury in the Capital One Cup.

The 20-year-old Academy product opened the scoring as the Foxes eased into a 2-0 half-time lead with Andrej Kramaric also on target in the second-round tie at Gigg Lane.

Danny Mayor replied as Bury showed some fight in the second period but Dodoo settled the contest with two cool finishes in the final four minutes.

The closing stages were marred by an unsavoury incident on the touchline as some Bury fans ran towards the side of the pitch and one Leicester player was dragged away as stewards moved in.

A number of Leicester fans later invaded the pitch after Dodoo completed his hat-trick in the last minute as trouble briefly reignited.

Leicester handed full debuts to four new signings in Gokhan Inler, Yohan Benalouane, Christian Fuchs and N'Golo Kante as manager Claudio Ranieri lived up to his 'Tinkerman' nickname by making 11 changes.

But it was another debutant in Dodoo who stole the show, showing pace and strength out wide as the Foxes cruised through the first half.

Leonardo Ulloa served an early warning to the hosts as he headed narrowly over from a corner and soon afterwards shot at goalkeeper Christian Walton.

Walton was named in the England Under-21 squad earlier in the day and showed why as he saved well from Kramaric after a blistering run by Kante.

But he could do little as Dodoo controlled superbly to smash in a shot off the underside of the crossbar after 25 minutes.

The youngster's joy was obvious as he ran off to the corner and slid onto his knees to celebrate in a manner not common in these early rounds of the competition.

Bury rallied briefly as Jacob Mellis shot at Mark Schwarzer but Leicester's second came as Ulloa robbed Mayor and fed Kramaric to curl in a superb low shot four minutes before the interval.

The Shakers, who have conceded 10 goals in four League One games, were facing a heavy defeat but rallied in the second period.

They got themselves back into the game four minutes after the restart as Mayor drove home from a Tom Pope nod-down.

They almost equalised as Danny Rose drove across goal and Peter Clarke forced in a header but the flag had already been raised.

Bury continued to push Leicester back but perhaps lacked composure when required.

Kante went close to killing off the game by forcing Walton to save but Dodoo was clinical after breaking clear four minutes from time. He completed his treble as the hosts were caught out in the closing moments.
