Late Williams free-kick seals Scunthorpe win

Scunthorpe bounced back from two straight defeats to claim a late 2-1 victory at Bury.

Paddy Madden gave the Iron the lead with a 12th-minute penalty before Leon Clarke deservedly levelled the match after 50 minutes.

But the Bury striker missed a host of chances before Luke Williams curled in a superb free-kick to win it in the 86th minute.

Peter Clarke had pulled Williams back for the spot-kick from which Madden side-footed in his 13th goal of the season.

Bury replied with Leon Clarke turning Danny Rose's pass wide before Leon Clarke had a header saved and Rose struck a post.

Madden almost caught Bury napping as his close-range effort was blocked by Bachmann. Clarke was then denied by Luke Daniels but he drew the Shakers level after the break, converting from Joe Riley's cut-back for his 12th goal of the season.

Jack King almost restored Scunthorpe's lead as he was denied by Bachmann twice in quick succession. The hosts hit back with Rose blazing over while a Leon Clarke shot was turned wide by Daniels.

And Clarke spurned another two chances before Williams found the top corner from 30 yards.
